About Us
"Words, words, words."

Classical man, modern timesLovers & Madmen is a student group at Northwestern University. We seek to provide Northwestern and the Evanston community with classical (pre-20th century) or classically inspired theatrical productions, placing special emphasis on the works of William Shakespeare.

L&M is committed to the development of educational programming to increase the Northwestern and Evanston communities’ interest in and knowledge of classical literature.  To that end, each Spring Quarter we offer a free “Playing Shakespeare” workshop for Middle School students where we, along with our invited teaching artists, help the students learn to interpret and perform Shakespeare. We additionally host a variety of other special events throughout the year.

L&M is a member of the Northwestern Student Theatre Coalition, a collection of student theatre companies formed to better represent the interests of student theatre on campus. We currently hold A-status recognition within the Associated Student Government. Further information about StuCo may be found on the StuCo wiki.

We maintain a stock of standard (4x8) platforms and flats, as well as a large assortment of costumes and props, both period and otherwise, available for rental. A general inventory of shared resources is available on the wiki; a more specific breakdown is available via this finely-crafted link. Inquiries regarding use of L&M stock should be directed at the Inventory Manager.
